Welcome to the Tampa Street School on the Web !

Where there is Safety, There is Security

Where there is Security, There is Peace

Where there is Peace, There is Love

and

Where there is Love, There is Learning

The Shameful Facts...
Statistics show the following characterize high school drop outs:
Of 18-24 year olds in long-term lockup facilities, 90% are drop outs.
Men and women lacking a high school diploma are almost twice as likely to be unemployed and to live below the poverty level.
The average welfare client has just ten years of school and is functionally illiterate.

For students whose lives have been marked by violence, poverty, gangs, teen pregnancy, drugs, unstable home and language barriers, it is often easier to give up than try to fight what seems like an impossible situation.

In Tampa, we shouldn't endure even one drop out from our high schools. Why? Because hopelessness is often expressed through violence, drug dependency, sex and self-destruction.

So, what can we do to combat the drop out rate and help at-risk students live positive lives?

Transform them by offering them a second chance to earn their diploma
in a caring environment where they can be taught biblical principles for living
with personal morals and values.

Our Mission...

The Tampa street School is dedicated to the belief that a quality education is the most effective way of transforming many disenfranchised members of our society into productive citizens. We believe that education is a quest for intellectual development, an opportunity for personal growth, and the path for the fulfillment of each child's unique plan.

We promote the joy of learning by exciting students to their individual best with love.

Our History...

Tampa Street School was founded in 1997 by Mary Ellen Ciganek. Her vision is to provide an alternative educational approach for students from ages 13-19 years old designed for them to earn a high school diploma. The school is mentored by successful accredited high schools of combined 45 years experience working with students that have not succeeded following a traditional educational path.

Our Current Programs...

Progressive education is a system characterized by fitting courses of study to the abilities and interest of the students rather than fitting the students to a given curriculum. Using this system of education, in an optional year round schedule, a student may complete all high school requirements in 22 to 48 months. We offer a quiet, accessible tutorial center on campus with a library, computers and correlated video lab centers to service the student's academic needs.

Tampa Street School prepares students for college and is a member of The College Board of Testing for the purpose of registering for the  PSAT, SAT, and ACT. Most colleges will accept Tampa Street School graduates with appropriate SAT or ACT scores.

Tampa Street School admits students of any race, sex, or national origin to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students in the program. The program does not discriminate on the basis of race, sex, or national origin in the administration of its educational policies or other school administered programs.

We believe that unconditional love, hope and spiritual guidance will change troubled young adults into scholars, athletes, artists and   !!FUTURE LEADERS OF TOMORROW!!

The Tampa Street School is making a difference!
